About

Maciek Musialek is a Polish photographer and videographer currently based in London, UK.

He works in news and documentary photography and video.

Growing up in Katowice in communist Poland, in a society where people had been conditioned not to say what they really thought, Musialek was used to watching people’s body language, the tiniest details that might give something away. Photography was a way to explore and document this. He is fascinated by history, and how it filters down into people’s lives, and into their consciousness.

His work focuses mainly on documenting issues relating to climate change, migration, displacement, and the effects of conflict.

Musialek contributes to outlets like The Times (UK), The New York Times (US), The Neue Zürcher Zeitung (CH), The Guardian (UK), Der Spiegel (DE), Financial Times (UK), The Independent (UK), Vice (UK, DE), The Scotsman (UK), Gazeta Wyborcza (PL), The Telegraph (UK).

He also works on commissions for humanitarian organizations like UNICEF, Disaster Emergency Committee, Oxfam, British Red Cross, Save The Children, Humanity Crew.

He is currently focused on the war in Ukraine.

He has been part of the VII Agency Mentorship Programme and Exhibition. Other awards and nominations he received include the British Institute of Professional Photography Award.

He holds a BA in Political Science.

He is a member of NUJ, BPPA, and has Hostile Environment First Aid Training (HEFAT).
